Rang de basanti rawkkkksss........

Everything seems to have gone right with Rang de Basanti, right from AR Rehman's music, Binod Pradhan's cinematography, adman Prasoon Joshi's dialogues, the performances by the lead cast as well as moving cameos by actors like Kirron kher, Waheeda Rehman and Om Puri.

The movie also doesnt seen to have the usual hangover of a superstar movie, it is not Aamir khan through and through, Siddharth and Kunal especially get ample opportunity to show their talent and they do so with aplomb, but the revelation of the movie is undoubtedly Sharman Joshi.

DJ, Karan, Aslam, Sukhi, Sonia all seem to be people we have known in real life, DJ's reaction on realizing Sue can understand English, Sonia expression after Madhavan proposes to her are all so real that you feel that you are a part of those situations. Everything about the characters is infectious, you tend to laugh with them as also cry with them.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra will surely succeed I believe in doing what none before him have been able to do, that is the task of creating awareness amongst the Indian Youth about their country's history. The manner in which he does it is appreciable, he doesnt impart on a lecture but tries to mix what we can relate i.e. our day to day life with what the revolutionaries must have been going through. The movie moves seamlessly between the past and the present – that is, between the past being reenacted by those from the present.

All in all a beautful film and absolutely work a watch atleast once to experience three of the finest hours of commercial Hindi cinema.

Take care
Tahseen

The fifth term

The past few months have been close to the most hectic months of my life. I have learnt more in these past few months than in the rest of my stay at IIMA. Learnt not only academic stuff but other stuff too, i have learnt to understand people, i have learnt to cope with different situations and i have learnt to think under pressure.
Confluence and the whole set of people associated with it have been such an integral part of my life in these past few months that it has taken me days to get out of what i call "The Conflu mode". No regrets though......... :)

Academically this term has been the worst..;)......Being busy with confluence resulted in me doing quite a bit of free riding which i am not at all happy about. But i am really thankful to all my group mates who have been so helpful and understanding.

The term ending has also been pretty memorable culminating in Strat Safari.......the RaviC (read more about him here) course which took us to Malaysia. Strat Safari was an extremely interesting as well as fun learning experience. More about Strat Safari later.....

Back!!!

Its been almost six months since i last blogged........during summer internship i had lots to say and i had the time to pen stuff down....back on campus, i had more than enough to say but not the kind of time i would want to give to putting down my thoughts. Not that i have been extremely busy always but have always had something else to do......and so the result....blogging took a backseat.........
Lotsa people have asked me about my not blogging anymore....par again it wasnt the most important thing to do.......
Today i was just sitting alone contemplating the last six months of my life......i thought i have to pen this stuff down.......n so i m back....hopefully for good......
A lil busy now with confluence just ending and a lot of submissions et all to do before the term break starts........but this is a promise to myself....i will come back to write.......to write about a lot of things and especially Confluence(for which i dont have enough words as of now), as a fellow co-coordinator had said during the closing ceremony......"i dont know if i am happy or sad.....happy because its done or sad because its over.....".

and DONE!!!!

Wednesday 1st June 2005

its around 2 in the afternoon when i get to know that since my guide is going to be out of town on friday, i will have to make my final presentations on thursday itself......

Status at this moment of time -

  • My guide still hasnt gone thru my prefinal draft of the report...so i cannot make my final presentation ppt before he gives me his views on it.....
  • The MR for my other project has jus entered the data entry stage i have around 300 odd responses more to firstly enter and then analyse and each questionnaire has 25 ques each

i have no idea how to finish it in 24 hours considering i dont sleep or do anything else.....

i start the data entry...go to my guide's cubicle every half hr to remind him to go thru my report...finally take print out n give him a hard copy before he leaves.......

data entry is still on...its 830, there is no one in the office other than me and the security guard.....he decides hes had enuf if not me he has a life.....he switches off the AC and also the lights in the other cubicles.....i finally give up n pack.......i mail all the stuff to myself, promising myself to work at home.....

i reach home only to realise that the net connection is down..o my gawd......have another 200 responses to go wht do i do...i decided to jus enter data sumplace else n merge it nxt day.......n so i work till 2 am wen the current decides i have had enuf...n kaboom goes the current....wait till 3 am then decide to go to sleep n go to office early

Thursday 2nd June 2005

get up at 6, there is no cd drive on the comps at office so jus put the data into a USB pen drive and hope tht i will find a comp which has a USB port.........

reach office at exactly 7:32 am, there is again jus one other person in the office, the security guard.......

look for a comp with a USB port finally find one....its the one used by UK marketing team head and that chap comes in only around 1130 am.....finally finish entering the data at around 1 pm have got the other data from the ren drive to finish analysing et all by abt 2 pm......n then it strikes me.........

Sujith is gonna start his presentation at 230 n i have my first presentation at 330 n my ppt for tht presentation is dtill not done coz my guide who came in to the office at 130 has still not given me anyrthing on my report....i go n bug him again finally at 230 as sujith enters the seminar room to make his presentation i start on my ppt......
thankfully finish it by arnd 315 and sujith takes a lil while longer for his ppt so at 4 i m in the hall waiting for the MD.....and then we realise tht there is no net connection....:(

run around to find the network guy who is unable to get a net connection...get the comp out of the room to a cubicle where there is a net connection but there seems to b sum prob in file transfer.....finally end up taking my comp(the machine i have been working on for the past two months)......

it was already 5 pm now time for the presentation on the project which sujith n i had done together so my presentation gets pushed away n v open the ppt for this presentation but it refuses to open the comp crashes every time v do this......at 530 v decide to make the ppt again.....cut paste starts with desperately trying to remember where wht was supposed to come......at last at 615 v r ready and starts the presentation again....it goes real well and the MD is real happy with our work and all the inferences and results v got from the MR.......

now time for my main presentation it is past 7 pm.....but thankfully i do a gud job or as my guide said later on a great job, the MD seemed to agree to most of my recommendations.....:)

and thus ends a marathon day.........13 hrs in office, no breakfast, no lunch but i m happy n pleased the job was done well and the best part i was done with my internship........

friday was spent in compiling all reports and today, monday i m sitting here waiting for my guide to come and fill my evaluation form so that i can leave....say good bye to my first office for one last time...............

its been one great experience......it had its own low points but overall i m happy with my summer internship......had gud projects to work on.....it may not have been the best place to work at but i have learnt a lot...................

Its Official.....Tucchadom beckons.....

So finally arrived at home, a letter from IIMA...confirming that i have been promoted to the second year...whaatay relief...:D

Had a supposed midterm review(its been a month and a half since i joined), it went on for nearly 4.5 hrs.....and the only thing i learnt was that the flow was missing...ab is ka matlab kya hua mujhe khud pata nahi....:D

2 weeks down and.................

Its been 16 days since i landed in Hyderabad, my hometown, had thought that i would be having loads of fun and freaking out with my family and friends but these 2 weeks have told me something else.......

Except for one or two odd movies, "Mumbai Express" being one of them, a damn pathetic one at that, i dont even know why that movie was made, it made no sense what so ever to me atleast and "Lucky" the other one, that was a really cute movie, and Russia is oh-so-beautiful, would really love to go there some day!!!!!!!.....and a dinner with seniors from IIMA, the rest of my time has been spent at work and in a few hours of sleep............

I was actually enjoying my work, considering the fact that it involved marketing, something i really like......but since the past two days all that i seem to be doing is reading up IT related stuff, which actually is very interesting, but to me who just doesnt seem to like IT, it is bugging me......

There has been a good side also, especially the faccha yahoo group, its fun replying to all those mails, it reminds me of the same time nearly a year ago when we were on that side and doing the very same thing which they are doing now, the same questions, the same answers just that we have changed roles..........

and what ever i say, whatever i crib about, being at home is bliss, ya nothing much to do other than sleeping and an odd outing here and there, but its a great feeling to just lay back and sleep and rest with no worry what so ever.

And ya i am sure like many others i sometimes miss IIMA and its maha-hectic life, be it with studying or having fun!!!!!

First week of Summer Internship

4th April 2005

I enter the office of VJIL Consulting Ltd. with trepidation. From what I had been told about my project, it was to be an assignment in IT, something about implementation plan for FileNet…I had been told to learn about FileNet in detail by my Guide. Tried a lot but still was not able to understand much.
Reached the office at 9am sharp, no sign of my guide or the HR or whoever who would know that I had to be there. Finally at 12pm walks in the HR lady, gives us (me and sujith aka auntie..the other intern with me at VJIL) a stack of forms to fill. The forms seem badly reminiscent of the Summer Placement Process itself, questions on strengths, weaknesses, career goals and so on and on. We were also shown to our cubicles, mine is just in front of our guide’s...:)
After all this we finally get to meet our guide, Bhanu (an IIMA alumni, batch of 1996), I was just hoping he doesn’t start by asking me about FileNet, thankfully he doesn’t….on the contrary he starts chatting about IIMA in general, our life at IIMA and about our interests et all.
Finally comes up the topic of our projects and he says "what we discussed during the interview was just to select people we wanted…..now you have to see what you are interested in, working in an IT consultancy doesn’t mean you have to work on IT projects or stuff, you can work on whatever you want, Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations anything".
Now this was something, I was pretty sure I wanted to do something in marketing and so I told him……
The rest of the day was spent in thinking about what I really wanted to do and in doing some more research on the company’s operations and stuff (so much so at the end of the day I knew everything that was there on the Company site by heart…:))

5th April 2005

We get our first assignment something about a template for a Capability Document for the IT services division of the Company basically to be used as a pre-sales document. Was oh so thankful to WAC for this…if not for WAC and the company report at the end of the last term..this task would have surely taken a lot more time than the time we actually took.

6th April 2005

Bhanu calls us to his cubicle. He tells us that he wants us to get experience on a whole range of things and so will be making us do some 3-4 assignments.
And so came our first major assignment, "Market Size estimation for IT training industry in Hyderabad". Seems to be a simple task. But then we realize we haven’t got any of our marketing texts or notes, hadn’t expected a marketing assignment in the least. Start frantically calling the other WIMWIans in Hyd, finally get Bharati, and ask her for her books…whattay relief.

7th April 2005

Start work on the assignment, haven’t been able to pin down the VJInfo (the Education Services Division of VJIL) director till now. Finally able to do so at 7 in the evening and end up spending close to 12 hours in the office…Phew

8th April 2005

Work and work and work………………
And also answering queries from some frantic future facchas..:D

That’s that for the week……looking ahead to a peaceful and fun filled weekend..:)
